Getting Started

Let's discover Constella in less than 5 minutes.

note

There is also a tutorial in the app, so feel free to come back to this wiki after you have gone through it.

Downloading

Sign up here to download the app for all your platforms if you haven't already.

The top bar

The main thing to understand about the input field in the top bar is that it has 2 purposes:

  1. Taking notes
  2. Searching

This way is saves you loads of time by having both being in one place.

Taking notes

Just type something in the search bar and press enter

The note will be added to your graph. It's that easy.

No more fiddling through finding the right file in the right folder, making thought capture instantaneous removes a lot of friction in life and encourages note taking.

Taking notes

You might notice that while typing a new note, Constella also performs a search. This brings us to...

Searching

You can just type text into the bar and Constella will automatically start a search.

In fact, you will notice that to add a note, Constella will search too.

This lets you take new notes while surfacing relevant ones to help you combine new thoughts with old ones.

Taking notes

By merging searching and taking into one bar, we mimic the way our brains work since our brain is interconnected. When thinking about a new note, it tries to remember past ones. And sometimes while searching for answers, we find new ones and want to jot them down.

Creating connections

Sometimes you want to track directional relationships.

Creating connections is super simple too.

Just hover over a note, notice the gray circle at the bottom, and drag and drop from it to the note you want to connect to.

Importing and exporting

Click the profile icon in the top left underneath the search bar to go to the settings page.

Here you can click on Importing or Exporting to import your notes from your existing solution.

Currently .txt and .md files are supported, and the export will export your notes with tags and connections as markdown files.

That's the core

Quickly taking notes and searching them for later by similarity is the first step of Constella.

This may be all you need, but did you know you can also do:

  • exact search like classical apps (rather than similarity based)
  • click on the graph
  • add tags
  • ask Stella to retrieve your notes and write content
  • expand the note to take more details
  • free flow writing

Constella is designed to be simple, fluid yet powerful. That's why as you go through the app, you'll find yourself stumbling upon its many features rather than being overloaded all at once.

Feel free to browse different features and use cases on the left and see what piques your interest.
